Landing Page Conversion Checklist
15 elements every high-converting landing page needs.
Above the Fold
Points 1 to 5. What visitors see before they scroll.
Headline matches the ad or link that brought the visitor
Message match is one of the biggest drivers of conversion. If your ad says "Get a Free Quote for Commercial Cleaning" and the landing page headline says "Welcome to Our Website", you will lose people instantly. The headline should mirror the promise that got them to click.
Clear value proposition visible without scrolling
Within seconds, a visitor should understand what you offer, who it is for, and why it matters. If they have to scroll or read three paragraphs to figure out what the page is about, most will leave. Be direct and specific.
Primary CTA button is prominent with action-oriented text
"Submit" is not a call to action. Use specific, benefit-driven language: "Get My Free Quote", "Book a Call", "Start My Trial". The button should be visually distinct, large enough to tap on mobile, and impossible to miss.
Hero image or visual supports the offer, not generic stock
Generic stock photos of handshakes and office buildings do nothing for conversion. Use images that show your product, your team, or your result. Real photos outperform stock in almost every test.
Trust signals visible (logos, ratings, certifications)
Client logos, review scores, certifications, or "as seen in" badges give visitors confidence before they have read a word of copy. Place them near the top of the page where they are seen immediately.
Body and Persuasion
Points 6 to 10. How you build the case and move visitors to act.
Benefits are listed before features
People care about outcomes first, specifications second. Lead with what they get ("Save 10 hours a week on reporting") before explaining how it works ("Automated dashboard with real-time data"). Benefits sell. Features justify.
Social proof present (testimonials, case studies, review counts)
Testimonials and case studies reduce perceived risk. Use real names, real companies, and specific results where possible. "We increased leads by 340% in 90 days" is far more powerful than "Great service, highly recommend".
Objections are addressed directly (FAQ, guarantee, risk reversal)
Every visitor has doubts. What if it does not work? What if it is too expensive? Is there a contract? Address these head-on with an FAQ section, a money-back guarantee, or a clear explanation of what happens next. Unanswered objections kill conversions.
Content is scannable (short paragraphs, bullet points, clear headings)
Most visitors scan, they do not read every word. Use short paragraphs (2 to 3 sentences), bullet points for key information, and clear subheadings that tell the story even if someone only reads the headings.
Only one conversion goal per page
A landing page should have one job. Do not include navigation links, sidebar widgets, or secondary offers that pull attention away from the primary action. Every element on the page should support a single goal.
Technical and Trust
Points 11 to 15. The behind-the-scenes elements that make or break conversion.
Page loads in under 3 seconds on mobile
Every additional second of load time costs you conversions. Test your page with Google PageSpeed Insights and aim for a score above 80 on mobile. Compress images, minimise scripts, and use a fast hosting provider.
Form fields are minimal (only ask for what you need right now)
Every additional form field reduces completion rate. For a first contact, you usually need a name, email, and perhaps a phone number. Do not ask for company size, budget, and job title upfront unless you have a specific reason to qualify leads that aggressively.
Mobile layout is tested and works properly
Test on a real phone, not just a browser resize. Check that buttons are easy to tap, forms are easy to fill in, and images do not break the layout. Over half your traffic is likely on mobile, so this is not optional.
Privacy policy link is visible near the form
A privacy policy link near your form is a legal requirement in many jurisdictions and a trust signal for visitors. It does not need to be prominent, but it should be visible. A simple "We respect your privacy" line with a link is enough.
Thank-you page or confirmation message is set up with next steps
After someone converts, do not leave them on a blank page or a generic "Thanks". Tell them what happens next: "We will call you within 2 hours" or "Check your inbox for the download link". A good thank-you page also lets you track conversions accurately in Google Ads and Analytics.
